The 35th Anniversary of the 911 Toy Drive (Covid Update)

Welcome to the 911 Toy Drive, 2020 Edition. As the events of this tumultuous year unfolded, we realized that this, our 35th Anniversary, was going to be very different. First, Covid demanded social distancing and other health and safety protocols to help prevent the spread of this deadly virus. It also had a significant impact on the economy, leading to (1) a dramatic downturn in donations, and (2) a significant increase in the need for assistance. Then, intense scrutiny on law enforcement practices nationwide, including calls for defunding police, resulted in broken trust between the some members of the community and those sworn to serve and protect them. Unfortunately, this has adversely impacted donations and participation by some of our drop-off partners.

The 911 Toy Drive was established to provide support for our public safety personnel, allowing them to get toys into the hands of children and youth and help create a positive interaction that will define that child’s attitude towards the cops. Our Police Santas have shared thousands of stories of success as a direct result of this program.

So despite the obstacles, we will persevere this year, though in a somewhat limited and decidedly different format. Though our mission remains the same, our procedures are designed to keep everyone safe so that we can all celebrate 2021 at last!

Blue Santa Drive-Thru Toy Pick-Up

Due to Covid (isn’t everything?) there will be no traditional Toy Giveaway Day. Instead, we are having a 1-day curbside, contactless Blue Santa Drive-Thru Toy Pick-Up at Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix. Officers must go to to electronically fill in the Family Request Form, then submit the form electronically and print the confirmation sheet. Within 48 hours, the officer will receive an email that includes their assigned Blue Santa # and instructions for toy pick-up. Volunteers will select and bag the toys and attach the Blue Santa #. Officers need to provide their printed confirmation form and Blue Santa # at the pick-up location. Gifts will be available for children up to age 12 while supplies last.
